Genesis Magma Racing monopolize pole and P3

Genesis Magma Racing confirmed the speed of the new Genesis GMR-001 LMDh by monopolizing pole position and P3 in both qualifying and hyperpole sessions for Sunday’s 6 Hours of Barcelona.

Genesis in pole and second row

Mathys Jaubert was the fastest in Hyperpole in the #17 Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar he shares with double world champion André Lotterer and two-time IMSA title-winner, ‘Pipo’ Derani, after qualifying third in the previous session.

Mathys Jaubert #17 Genesis GMR-001: « Amazing qualification by the whole team. Two cars in the top three. Extremely happy about the job done between qualification and hyperpole. We did put everything together and it is a big step for the whole Genesis team. Tomorrow we start in a great position in a track where it is very difficult to overtake. The tyre management is the most important thing to look at so being on pole with a clean air will help us for tomorrow but the weather will be very different and we have to adjust our strategy about that.”

Mathieu Jaminet qualified first in the qualifying session but a technical failure in his fast lap during Hyperpole prevented him to get both Genesis GMR-001 in first row.

Mathieu Jaminet #19 Genesis GMR-001: “At least P3 for car #19. Very good results even though it feels like a bit disappointing session having a technical issue at the wrong moment. It was nice to be first in the first part of qualifying and was looking good for my first pole but yeah, a little bit of bad luck but that’s car racing. Amazing job by the car #17 to Secure the first pole of the team and now we look forward to the race with two top three” Source: Genesis Magma Racing

TOYOTA RACING second

TOYOTA RACING will start the 6 Hours of Barcelona from the front row after narrowly missing pole position in a hard-fought qualifying session for the penultimate round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

A strong race result could secure the manufacturers’ World Championship for TOYOTA RACING with one race still to go, and qualifying at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya laid the foundations for its challenge in Sunday’s race.

Ryō Hirakawa earned second place in the #8 TR010 HYBRID he shares with Sébastien Buemi and Brendon Hartley, just 0.170secs away from the pole-sitting Genesis. The #8 crew currently lead the drivers’ standings and could seal the title on Sunday if results go their way.

Ryō Hirakawa (Driver, car #8): “The car was really fast today, the team did a great job. Potentially I could have been even faster but there were double yellow flags on my second push lap in Hyperpole. That was a pity, but being on the front row is good and I’m happy with the result. From there we can have a nice race tomorrow, hopefully.” Source: Toyota Racing

Alpine Endurance Team fourth

Charles Milesi qualified the #35 Alpine A424 he shares with Ferdinand Habsburg in fourth.

Cadillac fifth

Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA will start the 6 Hours of Barcelona in P5 and P10, for the penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, Will Stevens: “Overall, a pretty solid session. There were a few bits and pieces we could have tidied up, but I feel like the half a second or six tenths we needed to get pole today was probably a little out of reach. We pretty much maximised what we had, so it was a solid result and a good starting position for tomorrow. It looks like we’ll have pretty mixed conditions, especially at the start of the race, when it’s quite likely to be wet. Starting up at the sharp end just makes things that little bit cleaner for the race start. We’ve made good progress so far, we’ll be looking to keep that going tomorrow.” Source: Cadillac Racing
