BMW, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche among top 8

Six different manufacturers, eleven drivers (10 classified) were faster than Will Stevens’ FP1 Benchmark during the delayed Lone Star Le Mans afternoon Free Practice. Both BWM M Hybrid V8 were fastest but #15 fastest lap was deleted (track limits), the three Ferrari 499P, both Aston Martin Valkyrie and both Penske Porsche 963 are among the top 8 in FP2 time sheet.

BMW M Hybrid fastest

Both BMW M Hybrid V8 did top the afternoon time sheet but Dries Vanthoor fastest lap of the day in the #15 BMW with a 1:51.816 was deleted for a track limits infringement. At the end, it was Sheldon van der Linde in #20 BMW who did set the fastest official lap of the session at 1:51.946.

Ferrari back in top 2

Antonio Giovinazzi was second-fastest aboard the #51 Ferrari AF Corse 499P with a lap of 1:52.407

Aston Martin Valkyrie in top 3

Alex Riberas got his #009 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie in third with a 1:52.457.

Porsche 963 fourth

Kévin Estre was fourth in the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 with a 1:52.697

AF Corse Ferrari fifth

Robert Kubica got his #83 AF Corse Ferrari in the top five with a 1:52.746

Both Porsche Penske Motorsport in top six

Julien Andlauer aboard the #5 Penske Porsche was sixth with a 1:52.921.

Both Aston Martin in top seven

Harry Tincknell was seventh-quickest in the #007 Aston Martin. For the first time this season both V12-powered Valkyrie are among the top seven.

Ferrari, Toyota and Cadillac complete top 10

Nicklas Nielsen aboard the #50 Ferrari got the third Ferrari 499P in the top eight; Kamui Kobayashi was ninth fastest in #7 Toyota GR010–Hybrid, and Norman Nato completed the top ten in Hypercar ahead of his teammate Will Stevens who did set the FP1 Benchmark driving the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series.R .

The programme.

Saturday, 6 September: after the third free practice session (11.00 a. m.-12.00 a. m.), qualifying for the Hypercar class takes place at 3.40 p. m., followed by the Hyperpole at 4.00 p. m.

Sunday, 7 September: The 6 Hours of COTA, as mentioned, starts at 1.00 p. m. (local times).
