One Ford Mustang GT3 survived finishing 8th

Since HRT Ford Racing secured victory in the SP9 Pro-Am category and finished fourth-place overall last season, the target was a podium seat with 3 Ford Mustang GT3 entries led by three-time winners Frank Stippler and Christopher Mies alongside record-breaker Frédéric Vervisch. With #64 and #65 suffering accidents, HRT’s #67 Ford Mustang GT3 ended eighth overall.

CHRISTOPHER MIES, #67 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “The double stint went well; we had quite a good run. We are lacking a bit of top speed when we don’t have a tow, and we were a bit unlucky with traffic in the second stint, but we still came in P2. So overall pretty good.”

After both sister cars retired with accidents, the #67 continued to run strong and was fighting in the Top 10 even leading the race at one point. Sunday morning, the #67 Ford Mustang GT3 team was fighting for P8 with #34 Aston Martin, who would ultimately end third overall, before a tire puncture slowed the progress and forced a pit stop. Once back on track, the #67 Ford Mustang GT3 driven by Frédéric Vervisch, Christopher Mies, Dennis Olsen and Frank Stippler charged to the checkered flag, finishing seventh overall.

DENNIS OLSEN, #67 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “I think we had a good race. There was just one crucial part where the conditions were difficult, and we didn’t have the right tires to be able to compete. That cost us a lot of time and then we were on the back foot. Since then we were going flat out, and the Mustang GT3 was very fast, very reliable, and the team did a good job.”

FRÉDÉRIC VERVISCH, #67 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “I think in the race we showed that we had the pace. Unfortunately, we struggled a bit in the wet, which is what put us behind the leaders. I think a top-ten is a respectable result, but I think a podium was in the cards if we had a bit more luck.”

CHRISTOPHER MIES, #67 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “We showed great potential. We were leading the race at one point. The Mustang GT3 felt really good when I drove into the night and this morning. I was really happy with the car, with the balance, everything was good. We were a bit unlucky with the Code 60s and the puncture this morning, which put us on the back foot. I think we could have fought for the podium, but it is what it is.”

Two accidents for #64 and #65

For the two Mustang #64 (A. Maini / F. Scherer / F. Stippler / D. Schumacher)qualified 7th and #65 (H. Haupt / C. Caresani / V. Kolb / D. Schumacher)qualified 14th, theADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring didn’t start as planned with a steering issue in #64 and #67stuck behind a competitor

FRANK STIPPLER, #64 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “The pace was not bad. We picked up something strange on the steering, and we tried to sort it out throughout my stint. Hopefully we can adapt with some slight fine tuning on setup, and we will see how it develops.”DAVID SCHUMACHER, #65 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “In the first stint I was stuck behind a competitor and couldn’t get by, so we lost a bit of time there. After the pit stop I had clear running, overtook a couple of cars. I think we can be happy with the performance we have and the Mustang GT3 feels great, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the race.”

Despite showing strong speed and performance, both fell victim to early retirements as a result of incidents on track. After a bit more than 3 hours 43 minutes, A. Maini crashed the #64 Mustang GT3 in the rail.

ARJUN MAINI, #64 HRT Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 – “There was oil on track and I touched it. I had no chance to avoid it to be honest. It’s such a shame because the Mustang GT3 was so quick and so good, especially in the corners. Our strength was in high speed corners, and we had very positive upgrades from Ford Racing and HRT. It’s such a shame that it had to end so early and in the way it did where we couldn’t really control anything. Sorry to the guys that put in all the hard work, but it's part of racing at the Nordschleife.”
