GR Racing wins LMGT3 and CLX Motorsport LMP3 at Spa

GR Racing secured their first ELMS victory since 2015, winning the LMGT3 category at the 4 hours of Spa-Francorchamps ahead of the #77 Proton Competition Porsche and the #62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG.

#17 CLX Motorsport Ligier was promoted to first place in LMP3, with #85 R-ace GP Duqueine second and #11 Eurointernational Ligier third.

GR Racing first ELMS victory since 2015

GR Racing secured their first ELMS victory since 2015, with Mike Wainwright, Mex Jansen and Lorcan Hanafin winning the LMGT3 category at the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Hanafin on board of the #86 Ferrari 296 LMGT3 crossed checkered flag just 2.7 seconds ahead of the #77 Proton Competition Porsche, with the #62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG securing a second podium in a row.

Best result of the season for the #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R

Proton Competition extended its strong run in the European Le Mans Series with a second successive podium for the #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R at the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on 23 August. Martin Berry, Huub van Eijndhoven and Alessio Picariello finished second at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, securing the car’s best result of the season so far.

A strong opening stint from Berry laid the foundations for a top result. Despite numerous incidents interrupting the race, the Australian kept his cool and handed the car over to van Eijndhoven in a strong position. The Dutchman then delivered an error-free stint before giving way to local favourite Picariello, who produced a series of impressive overtakes to take the chequered flag in second place.

“We are really happy with second place today, after building on our third position in Imola,” said Berry. “Huub and Alessio did an amazing job. It was a pretty crazy race, but we stayed clean and minimised the risk and that paid off for us.” Source: Proton Competition

Team Qatar by Iron Lynx econd consecutive podium finish

Team Qatar by Iron Lynx achieved their second consecutive podium finish at Spa-Francorchamps as the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series came to a close in perfect racing conditions at the legendary venue.
Despite being comfortably in the lead early and losing a very possible victory only due to an ill-timed safety car situation, the #62 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 and its crew showcased strong pace and fought back to a brilliant third place at the end of the 4-hour event.

Abdulla Al-Khelaifi started from row 2 after a solid qualifying effort in damp conditions, and quickly gained one spot on the opening lap. The team’s quick pit-stop work led to another position gained up to P1, where the #62 car stayed for most of the first half of the race. Unfortunately, one of the many early safety cars that punctuated the day benefitted the teams that had already made their second stop. Despite being relegated outside the top five, Julian Hanses and Maxime Martin delivered a stunning recovery, gaining ground on their closest title contenders and maximizing the strategy with a third-place finish.

For sure we had a tough race, with lots of different strategies and safety cars, but my teammates Abdulla and Julian did a mega job again to keep the car in front, and I just had to finish. It was good for the team and I hope they will continue and fight for the title.”
Abdulla Al-Khelaifi, Driver, car #62: "We scored third place in the race and I got the most valuable driver award thanks to the fan vote. I’m very happy with the team and car for this round. We got a bit unlucky with the safety car, but we still scored some good points and climbed up to P3 in the championship with a small gap. CLX Motorsport wins LMP3 after post race penalty

The #17 CLX Motorsport Ligier was promoted to first place after a post race penalty led to the #5 Rinaldi Racing Ligier (who took the chequered flag first in LMP3), being disqualified due to non compliance with the maximum capacity of the fuel tank.
