United Autosports USA’s historic one-two
United Autosports USA etched its name into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship history books this weekend, securing a sensational first-ever IMSA one-two team sweep in the LMP2 class at the 74th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. In a race defined by relentless bumps and stand off’s with GT traffic, United Autosports two ORECA 07-Gibsons stood tall at the front of the field when the clock hit zero.

The #2 United Autosports USA entry, piloted by Phil Fayer, Hunter McElrea and Mikkel Jensen, claimed a hard-fought victory. This marked the first Sebring class win for both McElrea and Fayer, while Jensen continued his remarkable form at the historic Florida circuit, securing his third-class (21’, 22’ & 26’) victory and seven podiums in seven starts.
“I loved every minute of it. I'm blessed to be here. The race started a little bit difficult, but I enjoyed every minute behind the wheel. Sebring is such a special track.” Say’s Phil Fayer, #2 LMP2 driver and race winner.
The #2 crew maintained a consistent, flawless run through the gruelling 12-hour distance, avoiding the chaos that sidelined many of their competitors. In the final sprint, Jensen showcased his experience, fending off intense pressure to cross the line just 0.510 seconds ahead of the sister car.

The #22 United Autosports USA car, driven by Daniel Goldburg, Rasmus Lindh and Paul Di Resta, completed the dream result with a second-place finish. Their journey to the podium was anything but straightforward; the #22 entry survived multiple "street fight" moments, including a spin early in the race and contact that required a late rear-wing change. Despite these setbacks, the team’s rapid repairs and the drivers' resilient pace ensured they remained in the hunt.
The Twelve Hours of Sebring lived up to its reputation, with a staggering 11 Full Course Yellow, neutralizing the field for nearly three hours of the race. These cautions were a double-edged sword for the Team. For the #22 LMP2, the frequent yellows were a lifeline, allowing the drivers to close massive gaps created by the early-race spin and subsequent unscheduled trip to the pits. On the flip side, the #2 crew had to master the art of the "cold restart," with the trio repeatedly having to defend the lead on old tyres against a bunched-up LMP2 field. The final caution, triggered by a GTD collision at Turn 17 with just 40 minutes remaining, set up a frantic sprint to the finish that saw the two United cars go nose-to-tail until the checkered flag.

"This is a monumental day for United Autosports. To come to a place as unforgiving as Sebring and leave with a first and second place is a testament to the relentless work ethic of every single person on this team.” Say’s Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO & Team Principal.
“Sebring doesn't give you anything for free. We saw the #22 crew dig deep after some early adversity to get back into the fight, and the #2 car was just metronomic all day. Watching Phil, Hunter and Mikkel manage that gap in the closing laps while the sister car pushed them all the way was exactly the kind of 'controlled aggression' we ask for.
After the heartbreak we felt at Daytona, this is the perfect response. We’ve catapulted ourselves right back into the title hunt, and leading the championship standings heading into the summer break is exactly where we aimed to be. I couldn’t be prouder of the drivers and the crew for executing a flawless plan under immense pressure. We’ll enjoy this one, but the focus shifts to Watkins Glen almost immediately."
The #22 crew now holds a narrow three-point lead in the LMP2 championship over Crowdstrike Racing by APR, as the series takes a hiatus until the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen in June. Source: United Autorpsorts
